“Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky”

The color Violet was seen by Sir Isaac Newton as a distinct color separate from Indigo and blue, however the case can easily be made to distinguish the Color Violet from Purple. UltraViolet light is invisible to the naked eye, but under spectral light, Violet is seen as a bright color tone after Indigo.

The color purple in color theory is closer to the red spectrum where Violet is closer to the blue spectrum.

All this means as light is brightened on Violet it begins to get more blue than red. Both Purple and Violet sit between their primary’s red and blue.
